New initiative for journalists and bloggers starts Linz (ots) – The content industry is in crisis. The quality of content suffers. The platform economy is partly responsible for this: „If 31 percent of the world’s population provides free content for social media and these new mass media additionally enjoy countless privileges, then this is an enormous distortion of competition at the expense of conventional media,“ explains Johannes Knierzinger, spokesman for #NeverBlogForFree – „Content has value“ initiative, today’s campaign launch.

The initiative has two objectives: „Firstly, we want to draw attention to the problems caused by traditional media platforms, and second, we want to solve these problems by collecting and discussing new technical and regulatory innovations, and we want the best ideas realize it“,says Knierzinger. Simultaneously with the launch of the initiative is also a petition with three concrete Online demands: #NeverBlogForFree calls for the abolition of social media privileges, the introduction of a platform levy in favor of journalists and bloggers as well as mandatory transparency of the selection criteria for news filters on platforms. „Platforms have a legitimate business model, but they are media and not technology companies, and their privileges, such as the portrayal of violence in the area of child protection and copyright infringement, must be abolished in the interests of fair competition“, said Knierzinger, #NeverBlogForFree consists of independent journalists and bloggers from Germany and Austria who act without commercial interest. In the coming months the initiative will hold events, publish prominent expert opinions on the website and much more.
